The old man and his wife pulled and heaved and tugged and yanked at the gigantic turnip but the turnip would not move. A young girl finds a seed, plants it and with the help of her friends - a marmalade cat and a bird, tends to it daily as it grows. A lovely story that conveys a sense of wonder and excitement. Provides a great lesson about sharing too. Fiction picture book. Interest level: Gr.PreS-2.
