The contents of the 1976 Humane Education curriculum guide produced to aid in compliance with section 809 of the New York Education Law, is being reproduced here. All text in italics was taken directly from the out of print curriculum guide. Notations with links to lessons and recommended youth literature have been and will continue to be added to aid in instruction. The entire contents of the guide will be available shortly.

Although humane education is not mandated on the secondary level in New York, teaching humaneness will satisfy character education and violence prevention mandates. The following are helpful resources:

Starting a Youth Advocacy Group:

Humane Society Youth Mission Humane and Jane Goodall Institute's Roots and Shoots programs provide the support necessary to form and maintain an advocacy group.
